I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you and offer some history and information about our automotive group I was born just before my father purchased his Chevrolet dealership in Joliet, Illinois. I grew up in the dealership and had most every job in the store, starting from the time I was old enough (and even before that) to work. When I was a young child, I would ask why a plumber or a workman at my house did not drive a Chevy truck or a Bill Jacobs vehicle. I have always maintained that the worst punishment I could remember as a child was when my father once told me that I could not go to the dealership for a week. I absolutely loved the business then and still to this day, I have a total passion for all things automotive. When I was 23, I became the youngest Dealer Principal in GM History. My father passed away shortly after I purchased the dealership from him, but the values and integrity he taught me as a man and as a businessman have guided me through my life to this day
From humble beginnings as small car lot in Joliet, the Bill Jacobs Auto Family has grown into one of the most respected businesses in the Midwest. I was taught early on that customer service was really what set dealerships apart from one another. Treating people kindly and fairly with respect and attention to detail was something my father instilled in his team from day one, a tradition I’m proud to continue and always strive to improve. Early on, we instituted an awards system for our employees based upon making customers happy and keeping them happy. This was before Customer Satisfaction Scores (CSI) dominated the industry. If you do things right, your customers will be happy, and you’ll stay around in this very competitive business. There is much more to the Bill Jacobs Auto Family story than steel, glass and gasoline. The question people always ask me is how we have thrived for over 50 years in an industry that has seen many a competitor come and go. The Jacobs philosophy is simple: Be Genuine. We strive to be genuine in all we do, offering genuine value on our vehicles and providing genuine customer service. Our secret to success really isn’t a secret at all. While other places are trying to make a sale, we’re trying to make a difference. My father always gave back to the community, not out of a sense of duty, but because he genuinely cared. I feel the same way. I’m lucky to have been involved in many community organizations which I value highly. The Rush-North Shore Neurobehavioral Center is a center that my wife, Linda, and I helped to establish, both financially and as a founding executive board member. Two of my four sons have learning disabilities. Obtaining help in this field is difficult and inconsistent. I spearheaded a small group to form the center that now has served over 250,000 children and their families. The Center is a national resource for Neurobehavioral issues and has made a positive impact on hundreds of thousands of lives. Another one of our biggest group efforts has been the Bill Jacobs BMW ‘Drive For The Cure’ fundraising events. We close down our BMW store for a day every summer and invite hundreds of people to take test drives in BMW’s. For every mile driven, BMW donates $1 to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Our BMW Center has consistently held the biggest event in the country as part of nationwide campaign. We’ve raised over $150,000 for the foundation.
